Jonathan Pozniak’s years in portrait photography give him a hyper-awareness and an ability to fine-tune complex emotional presence within a photograph. In this series that spans both the Arctic and Antarctic, Pozniak finds a basic analogue to human existence reflected in the polar waters. Calving icebergs born from the frozen continent, travel, change and become formed by the environment before drifting out to sea. Pozniak presents this familiar life cycle through portraiture inspired photographs that combine a powerful sense of mood with striking natural beauty.
Pozniak has photographed ice formations in Antarctica, Greenland, Iceland, Alaska, and Svalbard. He lives and works in Manhattan.
